River North Art District, or RiNo as most Denverites refer to it, in North Denver is part of the Five Point neighborhood. A neighborhood that as recently as 2005 was made up of warehouses, factories and housing that was affordable.
Quite the the juxtaposition to today’s RiNo neighborhood where the old buildings have been transformed/torn down and re-built and now house trendy breweries (there are no shortage of those here – check out the image below), restaurants, cocktail lounges, galleries, workout chains (CorePower Yoga, Orangetheory, CrossFit, etc.), stores and high-end and high rise condo buildings on the inside and that showcase edgy street art murals on the exterior walls.
RiNo is a gentrification case study. And the numerous homeless shelters in RiNo, as well as, the surrounding neighborhoods serve as a reminder of what happened in this area so rapidly.
